Last weekend saw the 18 month anniversary of the day I finally asked Wendy out, and also the day I found out how long I kept her waiting before I popped the question…

To celebrate this occasion, I decided to book us a nice quiet evening away in Fraser’s Hill at a place called ‘Ye Olde Stone House’.  The theory was that we could spend some time together, just the two of us, no TV, no phones, no malls, no anything except us and the countryside/jungle.  Also, we had said on many occasions that we should venture out of the KL / Petaling Jaya areas a little more than we do and go travel around Malaysia a bit – thus this seemed like a good way to start those travels at the same time.

Today, I have decided to list a few things that happened on this day in history, particularly ones that have some kind of relevance to me.  Only because it is my birthday :-)

  • 1908 – The Tunguska Event occurred in Siberia (only relevant because Tunguska was referred to in The X-Files).
  • 1936 – Gone With The Wind was published.
  • 1942 – Robert Ballard was born – oceanographer who was consultant on the first series of seaQuest DSV.
  • 1953 – The first Chevrolet Corvette rolled off the production line.
  • 1960 – Alfred Hitchcock movie ‘Psycho’ premiered in New York.  (No, I don’t know why that is relevant to me either :-P ).
  • 1966 – Mike Tyson was born.
  • 1975 – I was born!
  • 1975 – Ralf Schumacher was born.  Yay!  I share birthdays with an F1 race driver!!!  :-D
  • 1984 – Fantasia was born (Yep, the American Idol).
  • 1997 – Hong Kong was handed back to China by England.
  • 2003 – Microsoft Exchange 2003 was released to manufacturing.
  • 2007 – Had my first birthday celebration with Wendy.  Probably the first birthday party that I’ve had in a long time that was arranged for me by someone special.
  • 2008 – Windows XP was withdrawn from sale.
  • 2008 – Last day of working for Shell IT before transitioning to EDS.
  • 2008 – Spent my second birthday with Wendy; received some flowers and a cake in the office from her and some rather nice and thoughtful gifts at home.  Had a nice, quiet dinner for just the two of us in Out of Africa in Petaling Jaya.

Last night, Wendy and I went for our pre-1st Anniversary Dinner which was spent initially at Nero Teca in the Ceylon Hill area of KL.

The venue was chosen and booked by Wendy (who became ‘unknown’ sat at the bar on the booking list even though she booked a table).  It was a nice little restaurant; a little cramped though, especially when they converted their menu holder into a prop-up table for us to sit at which ended up too wide for us to sit and be romantic and hold each other’s hands, and too narrow to hold the wine on the table with us meaning we had to keep waiting for one of the waiters to notice us flagging them down each time we wanted to fill our glasses – and on one occasion, we had to point out that the bottle was ours and we didn’t want two glasses of the house white.
