Back in May last year, Wendy and I went on holiday to Australia and whilst there, I came across the Transformers Marvel Crossovers Combiner 2 pack of Spider-Man and Iron Man which, at the time, hadn’t been released here in Malaysia. Fresh from Japan and Hong Kong are some new exclusive releases from the Tokyo Toy Show 2010 and Toys’R'Us (America). The Tokyo Toy Show 2010 gives us a rendition of G2 Dreadwing and Smokescreen using the Revenge of The Fallen NEST Global Alliance pairing of Mindwipe and Skystalker. Mindwipe was always a great looking mold resembling a stealth bomber of some description (I can’t remember off the top of my head exactly which real world plane it looks like) with a very imposing, almost vampirical, robot mode. Skystalker is just some random other plane, almost like a mini-Mindwipe at scout size, which can sit on top of his Voyager sized companion.
Having had a few days suffering from a dose of flu, I wasn’t able to continue my posts about the Shanghai 2010 Transformers Cybertron Con until now. I’m still not 100% recovered which must make this one of the longest lasting flu I’ve had in forever even if it wasn’t the one with the worst symptoms. Perhaps the second or third port of call for anyone visiting the 2010 Transformers Cybertron Con currently running in Shanghai is the display area which showcases collections brought in by members of the ACToys forum and other collectors across China along with some items from Hasbro and TakaraTomy themselves including upcoming releases in the Celebration 2010 line such as Unicron, Primus and Masterpiece Rodimus – all of which will be posted in a separate entry later on. One of the first big events of Cybertron Con’s first day was – the Sneak Peak panel. Pretty much everything that is newsworthy was up online within minutes of being shown thanks to the wonders of Twitter, Facebook, blogging and wireless access so I had no chance of being able to reveal Cybertron-smashing news to anyone back home in Malaysia unless they were living under an Energon cube somewhere so, I figure I may as well just wait till I got home before making any posts. More importantly, back from the 2010 Transformers Cybertron Con in Shanghai! There have been plenty of pictures posted in various forums and blogs so far detailing the new release announcements from the ‘Product Sneak Peak Panel’ and also from the Takara 2010 preview of Masterpiece Rodimus but there is still at least one thing I found there which hasn’t yet been mentioned anywhere. Earlier this month, Toys’R'Us Malaysia (and other countries in the region) were running a competition to win a trip to the Cybertron Con 2010 being held from July 30th to August 3rd in Shanghai. All you had to do was spend RM100 for an entry and write down a slogan finishing the sentence ‘I love Transformers because…’ in no more than 15 words. Click to continue reading “Woohoo – We Won!!!”
Depending on your perspective, this is either Deluxe Wave 7 or NEST Deluxe Wave 1 (or 2010 Deluxe Wave 1). In the same way that the first Transformers movie toy-line spawned a secondary line in its ‘Allspark Power’ series to prolong sales, the ‘NEST Global Alliance’ series is Revenge of The Fallen’s way of doing the same thing – and times its release to coincide with the pre-Xmas spending period.
Paring back on releases even further than in Wave 5, Wave 6 contains only two ‘new’ figures which are both repaints of previous movie ‘off-screen character’ molds. As well as containing less new figures, the wave also seems to be receiving a smaller distribution with only department stores and, strangely, hypermarkets being good places to pick these up.
